I actually don't know what to write so I decided to look at Pau's blog. (She wouldn't mind anyway HAHAHA) Her 10th post is about Anton Chekhov's "The Lottery Ticket".
Before I start my reflection on the said story, let me give you a brief introduction of the author first.
Anton Chekhov was a Russian short-story writer, playwright and physician. He was also considered to be one of the greatest short-story writers in the history of world literature. He produced many classics and famous short stories. Amazing, isn't it? :)
Now, let's talk about "The Lottery Ticket"
The story revolves around a man named Ivan Dmitricth and his wife Masha.
The middle aged couple lived a simple yet peaceful life. Both were already contented with what they had until Masha purchased a lottery ticket.
On the day that they got the newspaper with the winning numbers, the two decided to imagine or fantasize things that could happen if ever they had the winning ticket. Both were full of "what-ifs" and high hopes of living a luxurious life until it came to a point where in Ivan only thought of himself and Masha did the same.
At the end of the day, the couple finally decided to read the rest of the winning number and to their dismay, they didn't have the winning ticket after all. This resulted to Ivan and Masha hating each other.
My Reflection:
The mere thought of money can severely affect a personal relationship. Wealth has a great impact not just to the characters of the story but to everyone as well. This story made me realize that money or wealth IS important. But it is not as valuable as a loved one. Money can never replace someone or something you love. :)
